With the popular show "Extreme Couponing," couponing has recently attracted national attention. The increase in shoppers who use coupons has also unfortunately resulted in an increase of improper coupon use.  Conscientious couponers can help by being extra careful in how they use coupons.  Here are a few tips:
1. First, always read a coupon carefully to make sure it is being used for the intended product, product size, and product quantity. For example, a coupon may specify an ounce minimum, or a specific variety of a product. Or the coupon may require purchasing two, or more items, in order to use the coupon.

2. Check the expiration date to make sure it's a current coupon. Using an expired coupon can result in the store not being reimbursed by the manufacturer. Send expired coupons to overseas military bases where they are allowed to use coupons 6 months past expiration!

3. Never photocopy an internet coupon; a valid internet coupon is printed directly from the source. Also, be sure that internet coupons are coming from a legitimate source like a coupon website, the brand's website or Facebook page, or the brand's email list. Coupons that are just forwarded from person to person are likely fraudulent.
