Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic Review + Ticket Discount

Last night my family and I went to see Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic's opening night at The Ford Center.  First, let me just say, it was phenomenal!   We saw so many beloved characters - more than I was expecting - dancing on the ice to gorgeous Disney music.

The show was divided into two acts, with a brief intermission in between.  During the first act, we saw Aladdin and Genie (plus twenty more Genies dancing to "Never Have a Friend Like Me), several Finding Nemo characters skating to a short version of the movie story, the story of Beauty and the Beast briefly portrayed, a dancing montage with several Disney princesses including Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, Pocahontas, and Jasmine, and more.

The second act opened with the Mickey Mouse band skating to the iconic "Mickey Mouse Club March" song (M-i-c-k-e-y m-o-u-s-e!) following by many Pinocchio characters, several songs from Mulan, a fun scene with The Incredibles superheroes, and a Lion King scene.

Both acts featured some impressive special effects and props like Bruce from Finding Nemo, the whale from Pinocchio (who really did swallow Geppetto and Pinocchio on the ice!), huge paper dragon for the Mulan scene, and more.  It really was amazing how effortlessly these stories were brought to life on the ice!

We enjoyed each and every scene but if I had to pick a favorite, the "It's A Small World" scene stands out.  Unlike the other character scenes which were all based on movies, this "It's A Small World" one was based on the classic Disney parks attraction and the skaters portrayed the various dolls as they skated to music from the attraction.  It was such a unique and beautifully choreographed routine!

Toward the end of the show, my son Peter (age 4) was on his feet, mesmerized.  I asked him if he wanted to sit down, but he couldn't take his eyes off the ice. :)  The finale featured nearly all of the characters from both acts skating to the song "Circle of Life" from The Lion King.   Toward the end, fireworks were launched from the castle backdrop - it was a fantastic ending to a truly spectacular show!
