Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales Review

Last weekend, my family and I had the opportunity to review Feld Entertainment's Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales at The Centre.   Before the show, I had decided to give my daughter Liberty a light blue princess dress that I had been saving for her birthday in July.  It was totally worth letting her have that dress early! The look on her face when she was all dressed up as Cinderella - including have her barely-long-enough hair pinned up with a blue ribbon - was priceless.   And when we arrived we saw dozens of other little girls dressed up as various princesses, Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and even a few Jasmine and Ariels.  Liberty was so thrilled to be dressed as a little princess at the show!

The show opened with Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto on the stage and then the audience participated in calling for Mickey to come out.   After finding an enchanted book, Mickey and Minnie began reading the story of Snow White.   Her story was delightfully portrayed with the help of the Seven Dwarfs.  My kids had never seen Snow White's story before, so the classic "Hi-ho, hi-ho" was new to them... and something they enjoyed repeating over and over the entire ride home. :)

Snow White was followed by Cinderella's tale.  Cinderella sang and danced along with her Stepmother and the hilariously clutzy Ugly Stepsisters.  The adorable mice Gus and Jaq were even part of the story, portrayed by large puppets.  During the Fairy Godmother scene the audience once again participated by calling out "bippity boppity boo" several times (another new phrase that my kids have enjoyed repeating, of course!).   The first act ended with Cinderella fleeing the ball at midnight.

After a short intermission, the story of Cinderella was concluded and then Belle's story finally began.  (Belle is a family favorite, so the kids were very anxious to see her!)  Her story included several familiar songs from the movie including Belle, Be Our Guest, Something There, and the classic Beauty and the Beast theme.   Another thing worth mentioning is that my kids tend to be frightened by the more intense Beast scenes in the movie, but they were fine during the show because Beast was much less scary in this version.   Afterward they both agreed that Belle's was their favorite story.

The finale featured all three princesses in beautiful, shimmering gowns; their princes; Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy; and reprises of each princess's theme song.  I was somewhat surprised, since my kids are extremely active, that they sat spellbound throughout both acts of the show.   The show was the perfect length to keep young children enthralled without getting restless.  Definitely fantastic live family entertainment!

If you missed Disney Live's appearance here in Evansville, you will have a chance next month to see another spectacular Disney show.  Feld Entertainment's Disney On Ice: 100 Years of Magic is coming to Evansville March 8-11!  If you're not from around Evansville, you can visit the Disney Live! website or the Disney on Ice website to look for show times near you.
