Just in time for the busy holiday season, Jimmy Dean has launched Hearty Sausage Crumbles, which are fully cooked and ready in minutes (just heat and eat!). Now it’s quicker and easier to add hearty and flavorful sausage to appetizers, entrées or your favorite breakfast dish. Plus the crumbles come in a reseasable pouch for handy storage in case you don't use the entire package.
The crumbles are available in Original, Hot, and Turkey. I love that they're available in Turkey because we always try to cook with turkey sausage if possible as I feel it's a lot healthier! I tested the sausage using a recipe from the Jimmy Dean site - Sausage Breakfast Bake - with a few modifications (see my version below). It turned out very yummy and my little piglets (aka Peter and Liberty) both demanded seconds! What a time saver to just open the pouch and have the sausage ready to go! No need to brown in a pan, drain the grease, wash the greasy pan!
I am also really interested in trying this Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms recipe from the Jimmy Dean site... I love portobello! Plus they have many other tempting recipes to choose from which you can view on the Jimmy Dean Recipe Page.
Sausage Breakfast Bake
* 8 cups French or Italian bread cubes (3/4-inch pieces)
* 1 pkg. Jimmy Dean® Original Hearty Pork Sausage Crumbles
* ½ cup chopped red bell pepper
* ½ cup chopped onion
* 1-1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
* 6 eggs
* 2 cups milk
* ½ teaspoon salt
* ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 325°F. Unroll and spread the crescent roll dough over the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9-inch baking dish. Gently stir the sausage, peppers, onions, and cheese together and then evenly distribute over the crescent roll dough in the dish.
Beat eggs, milk, salt and black pepper in large bowl with wire whisk until well blended. Pour over ingredients in baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2-cup of cheese. Bake 40 - 50 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Cook’s Tips: Note: If casserole browns too quickly, cover with foil for the last 15 minutes of the baking time.

Brown sausage like hamburger meat (drain).
While preparing sausage, soften cream cheese in microwave for 15 seconds.
Unpack the rolls.
Use roll as the bottom crust.
Mix sausage and cream cheese together. Spread mixture onto a bottom crust.
Use the second can of rolls to make a top layer crust by pinching sides together all the way around like a calzone ring.
